DC Studios’ Lanterns series gets August 17 release date

A new teaser was also shared, giving us a better idea of what to expect.

Following the first teaser in March, DC Studios and HBO Max shared a new teaser for Lanterns, which also revealed its August 17 release date.

This is the second live-action series by DC Studios in the James Gunn Era, following the Peacemaker series. Unlike Peaceamaker, though, this show is not helmed by Gunn himself. Instead, it is created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. As such, this is more of a serious show, with a tone and style that’s more reminiscent of shows like True Detective and Slow Horses.

You can check out the new Lanterns trailer here:

This new series follows experienced Lantern Hal Jordan as he investigates a murder in Nebraska. Joining him is Lantern recruit, John Stewart. While the show will focus on these two, it will also feature an appearance by Guy Gardner (who should be a familiar face to fans who have seen last year’s Superman film).

The show stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

Lanterns will be streamed exclusively on HBO Max, with an official August 17 release date.

Before this show premieres, though, DC fans can look forward to Supergirl, which will be released in Philippine cinemas on June 24, 2026.
