It has been five years since the second season, and now, The Quintessential Quintuplets is officially getting a new TV anime series, though its timeline may be a bit confusing to some. After all, the franchise’s story has technically ended, as the manga’s ending and the 2022 anime film already revealed who Futaro ends up with.
Following the said movie, the franchise has gotten several anime specials, as well as a bunch of video games, proving that there’s still plenty of interest in the Quintessential Quintuplets. As such, it’s not too surprising that a new TV anime series was revealed during a recent fan event in Tokyo. An OVA was also announced at the event, which will cover some parts of the original manga.
Given the number of Quintuplets projects, some fans may be wondering what this new anime show will be about. Thankfully, there’s a fairly straightforward answer to this.
All you need to know about the new Quintessential Quintuplets anime: Timeline and Source Material
The new anime series will adapt The Quintessential Quintuplets: The Four Seasons light novel. This light novel series is written by Hajime Asano, with the story being overseen by series creator Negi Haruba. Instead of being a sequel, The Four Seasons light novel series is set during the third year high school days of the Nakano Quintuplets.
Thus, the upcoming anime will be set after the School Festival arc and the Final Arc. In terms of the movie, the events in the upcoming series takes place between Futaro’s confession at the end of the festival and his wedding to one of the quintuplets.
As for how it fits in with the other anime projects, here’s a rundown of all of the ones released so far:
- The Quintessential Quintuplets – the first season, which aired in 2019.
- The Quintessential Quintuplets II – the second season, which aired in 2021.
- The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie – the 2022 movie, which featured the story’s finale.
- The Quintessential Quintuplets∽ – a two-episode OVA released in 2023 that adapted parts of the manga that were skipped in Season 2.

What about the new OVA?
As for the OVA, there’s also not much in the way of details. Based on previous ones though, it’s likely that this one will once again consist of two episodes.
What we also know for certain is that the new OVA will adapt chapters in the manga that weren’t covered in the previous anime projects. Thus, it’s similar to the Quintessential Quintuplets∽ OVA released in 2023.
For now, there’s no word on when the new Quintessential Quintuplets anime series and OVA will be released.
