We’ve seen plenty of Resident Evil Requiem mods, but this new Merchant mod is perhaps one of our favorites as it brings back a series icon.
As we’ve mentioned in our review, Requiem is a great entry in Capcom’s long-running franchise, as it combines Resident Evil’s puzzle-solving horror and zombie-blasting action in one compelling package. One thing we didn’t mention is that, while Leon can buy weapons in his section, he no longer buys them from the trusty Merchant like in RE4. Instead, he purchases items through Supply Boxes. While this has zero effect on gameplay, it did make us miss seeing the Merchant’s purple flame and hearing his iconic lines (another case of soulless AI slop replacing a true artist).
Thankfully, a fan has brought him back!
Recently, fanteeek on Nexus Mods shared this new mod that replaces the Resident Evil Requiem Supply Box with the Merchant. Aside from being in the game where Supply Boxes can be found, the mod also places him in other areas that Leon goes through, including Rhodes Hill Care Center.
On the Merchant’s table, you can see various weapons and ammo. Plus, there’s a framed photo of Leon and Ashley with the Merchant, which is a particularly nice treat for those who have played (and loved) RE4 Remake.
For now, the mod only features the Merchant’s idle animation and a few lines, though its creator did mention that they’ll work on adding more dialogue and animation in the future.
While the Merchant doesn’t exactly fit the more grounded look of Requiem, we’re giving the mod a pass. After all, Requiem already has plenty of fanservice, whether it’s the entire RPD section or Zeno’s entire character (who is “totally” not Wesker).
Resident Evil Requiem is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
