HoYoverse recently announced that Genshin Impact Version Luna VIII “Sunny Summer Fontinalia” will launch on July 1, bringing Sandrone as a 5-star playable character.
As the follow-up to Version Luna VII, this new update is also quite big, as it will see players reunite with Sandrone, who returns as a playable five-star character. The update will also add the Frost Moon as a permanent new area.

Sandrone is a 5-star Cryo Claymore wielder who can increase the party’s Stellar-Conduct DMG through the Polestar Field. In combat, Sandrone commands Fagio, an autonomous construct that deals Stellar-Conduct DMG with each Charged Attack and accumulates Decoding Power. When Fagio reaches its firing limit, its attack intervals will increase. Plus, Sandrone can maneuver through the Polestar Field while firing, which reduces Decoding Power, preventing Fagio from overloading.
Players will be able to pull for Sandrone in the first half of the Version Luna VIII Character Event Wishes. She will be joined by Citlali’s rerun. Meanwhile, the second half will feature the return of Columbina and Raiden Shogun.
Another highlight of the update is the addition of the Frost Moon, which HoYoverse describes as:
Players will board a spacecraft and journey beyond the skies of Teyvat, finally setting foot on the moon, where a vast new region awaits exploration. The moon is home to many breathtaking sights, unlike anything seen in Teyvat, including a luminous yet treacherous lunar sea and a space station suspended in outer space, from which players can gaze upon Teyvat as it quietly rotates in the distance. In addition, majestic ancient ruins await exploration, revealing more hidden stories tied to the ancient dragon race. A mysterious ancient power permeates the lunar surface, allowing players to traverse various types of terrain and manipulate the local gravity. To further improve the exploration experience, both the moon and Teyvat maps will receive a new layered display feature that shows the player’s current level in real time.
The update also adds the Fontinalia Film Festival, where Sandrone will come aboard the Wingalet in Fontaine as Columbina arrives with a film crew for a shoot. Plus, the Miliastra Wonderland will receive a brand-new summer-themed lobby and summer-themed outfits.
Genshin Impact Version Luna VIII will be released on July 1 on all platforms.
