Call of Duty: Warzone was a global phenomenon when it first released back in 2020. It took some of the key aspects of the classic multiplayer experience that fans love about the franchise and applied it in a massive scale battle royale. Whether you liked it or not, it skyrocketed the franchise to insane levels of renewed popularity. Now, we get to experience it all again with Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile as it brings back the two most beloved maps, Verdansk and Rebirth Island. We got to attend the Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile launch event where Executive Producer Tom Hess talked about the team’s biggest challenges in making Warzone Mobile.

It’s undeniable that mobile gaming has become more complex over the past few years. Some of the mobile devices we have today are more powerful than consoles themselves. It’s also not the first time the CoD franchise has made its way to our phones as the highly popular Call of Duty: Mobile is still going strong to this day. The most impressive thing about Warzone Mobile is the fact that the original version used to make consoles and PCs have a run for their money. It was a fairly demanding game in terms of technical requirements. To take all of that, alongside Modern Warfare II and III’s gear to smartphones is an incredibly daunting feat. Hess speaks more about it.

“It’s been an amazing journey. During the early days of development, we kept seeing early signs that this is going to work. We knew the game was fun but the one thing we had to get right was the touch controls.”

The developers had to keep the large-scale fast-paced action that Warzone is known for and make it run smoothly on a mobile device without compromising on too many things.

“The main goal is to offer a full Call of Duty experience. We’re giving players a ton of settings to customize. One’s UI can be significantly different from another’s depending on how they want to play. This freedom of choice was very important to us.”

Despite dealing with the challenges in making Warzone Mobile, the team was able to somehow pull it off. It’s only a matter of time till we see the franchise breaking records once again, all in the comforts of your phone.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is now available on iOS and Android devices for free.
