Having my heart figuratively leaping out of my chest wasn’t how I envisioned my December 2025 to be like but here we are inside the superbly fast Xiaomi SU7 getting just that. Being able to go from zero to 100 km/h in just under 2 seconds, we were driven around on one of the fastest production sedans in the market to date. We’re also being driven at Xiaomi’s EV factory and experience center over at Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area over at the outskirts of Beijing, China.

It’s one of the stops from our 4-day Beijing excursion from December 8 to 11, 2025. I was part of a handful of media from the Southeast Asia region.
Xiaomi is really gearing up to be a major contender in the Electronic Vehicle space with their current roster of sedans and SUV specifically the SU7 line and the YU7 – one that currently is experiencing quite a backlog because of the massive clamor for it in China.
I’m personally not a huge car guy and yet the factor tour, which they opened to the public, makes it easy to digest and appreciate how the brand designs and manufactures their vehicles. From chassis, to battery technology, safety measures to fabric stitches, Xiaomi took us quite under the hood for their electric vehicle production.
Customize your dream Xiaomi Electric Vehicle

If there is one area that I would love to spend an entire afternoon at, it would most likely be the Xiaomi Customization Lab – a first effort from the brand to even level-up the luxurious sophistication in owning one of their EVs.
The showroom felt like a haberdashery…but for cars.

Customize absolutely everything
Choose among the 100 colors that they currently have on their wall and pair it with whatever fabric and upholstery that you can imagine. You can even order in genuine napa leathers which they have swatches for.
If you’re big on design and on car customization, this area is basically Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for you. Established just this September, we’re one of the few media that were allowed to go around and document show floor.

100 different colors and finishes to choose from
According to Xiaomi execs, currently the service is only being offered on the main Xiaomi EV Factory plant. They do plan to expand this service to other areas within China soon but for now you’ll have to place your Xiaomi EVs at this particular location to have it customized.
The sample on display was superbly done as well. A touch of class, luxury, and sophistication, they adorned the YU7 in chic Champagne Pink paired with deep plum accents. Exquisite!
Aside from EVs, we were also granted access to take a peek behind what it takes to make a Xiaomi smartphone, well, smarter.
Smarter Smartphone for the Next Generation

While constantly gaining market dominance or at least being part of the top 5 industry players, I needed to be reminded that Xiaomi officially only started in 2010 – making it relatively younger than the other Chinese-originated smartphone brands. Only just 15 years in the market and achieving all this is quite a feat! It truly does start from a small grain (from the name of the brand translated in English).
The Xiaomi Smart Factory is truly state-of-the-art with 11 production lines, achieving 100% automation in critical processes. Rows upon rows of customizable and modular assembly lines can be crafted for whatever project they’re currently implementing. During our visit, they were creating panels for the Xiaomi YU7 as well as manufacturing the latest Redmi Note Series line as well. But initially, the facility was built to produce the Xiaomi numbered series.

Your Xiaomi smartphone most probably came from this line
The assembly line is a marvel to witness and an operation guy’s wet dream. Able to produce an entire smartphone from start to finish in a matter of hours is amazing. Everything from SMT creation, parts assembly, Quality Testing, polishing, gluing, down to packaging, everything was done in this massive room. By the time you walked the entire stretch of the assembly line you’re greeted with a newly boxed smartphone. Mind. Blown.
In fact, according to a press briefing sent to us, the brand claims that the factory produces a smartphone every 6 seconds and a max output of 10 million smartphones in a year.

Their command center, the Xiaomi Hyper Intelligent Manufacturing Platform
The magic relies on the almost fully automated factory with Robots and AI taking center stage. The factory is built in a way that allows the facility to not just simply assemble the device, but to analyze, and strategize and create micro adjustments on the fly. This frees people up from mundane tasks and lets them concentrate on better things. Of course there are still human checks along the production line but it’s kept to a minimum.
The Xiaomi Smart Factory is just one of the many different laboratories the brand has scattered around 11 cities worldwide. This flagship facility alone houses about 140 individual labs among the more than 500 in total and has an area of 12,000 square meters.
HyperOS and a smarter home

Entire place is running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS
Towards the end of the tour we were ushered into a HyperOS showroom where a myriad of Xiaomi home appliances interact with each other via an integrated system. Lighting systems, automated curtains, television sets, air purifiers, coffee maker, ref, air conditioner, even smart aquariums all interact within one network – and you can, if you wish, control them via your Xiaomi phone or tablet.

Yup they even have a smart aquarium
This quick factory and facility tour from Xiaomi gave us assurance that strict quality measures took place before a single material comes out of their factory. In 2025 coming into 2026, you can erase the notion that China products are subpar and substandard. If anything, they’re pretty much the place to get high quality products. Each factory we visited was littered with so much Qualification Certification and state-of-the-art robotics placing China in the forefront of technological advancement and innovation.
Whether it’s a factory in the capital, Beijing, or one in their tech hub down at Shenzhen, the constant operational optimization and precision contribute to why the brand is constantly among the top 5 smartphones of the world (top 3 for 21 consecutive quarters to be exact).
This massive precision production in scale allows the brand to churn out large orders in record time and supply the entire world with Xiaomi’s brand of tech wizardry.
