Square Enix recently announced that the FINAL FANTASY X | X-2 HD Remaster will be released on Switch 2 this July. This comes just in time as Final Fantasy X is celebrating its 25th anniversary this July (as the game was released in Japan on July 19, 2001).
The game is also confirmed to get a physical edition launch in Southeast Asia via Bandai Namco (in partnership with Square Enix). Switch 2 owners will be able to buy physical copies of the FFX Remaster collection, though it’s not clear if this version will also be released on July 23. After all, the game’s physical version in other countries will be released on August 27.
Note that in terms of content, the Switch 2 version will be identical to the Switch 1 version, though this edition will come with enhanced visuals and extra quality-of-life settings. The additions include:
- Character, monster, and background graphics have all been remade in full HD and boast huge improvements to resolution.
- Featuring fully remastered and arranged music.
- Additional elements from the FINAL FANTASY X / FINAL FANTASY X-2 International Version have been fully recreated.
- High-speed mode, no random encounters, and other new quality of life features have been added.
It’s fair to say that Final Fantasy X is one of the most iconic games of the PS2 era, and it’s also one of the most beloved Final Fantasy games ever. This is thanks to its unique setting, engaging turn-based combat (complemented by the great Sphere Grid system), and a memorable story. If you haven’t played it yet, we definitely recommend FFX as its gameplay and visuals have aged well, especially in this HD Remaster.
FINAL FANTASY X | X-2 HD Remaster will be released on Switch 2 on July 23, 2026.
