Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is out now, and it’s a major release for Ubisoft Singapore, as it’s the first game in the franchise to be led by an Asian Ubisoft studio.
As with most major Ubisoft releases, this Black Flag remake was worked on by a truly global team, as it featured contributions from Ubisoft’s various studios across the world. These include teams at Barcelona, Belgrade, Bordeaux, Bucharest, Chengdu, Da Nang, India, Kyiv, Montpellier, Montreal, the Philippines, Quebec, Shanghai, and Sofia. Leading the game’s development, though, is Ubisoft Singapore. While the Singapore studio has worked on plenty of AC titles over the years, this is the first game that the studio has led the development of.
“Leading Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced from Singapore is a proud moment for our studio,” said Jean-François Vallee, Managing Director of Ubisoft Singapore. “This project reflects everything Ubisoft Singapore has built over the past 18 years: world-class technical expertise, deep production experience and a passionate team capable of delivering at the highest level on one of the most iconic entertainment franchises in the world.”

The studio’s history with the AC franchise dates back to 2009. Yes, the Singapore team has contributed to the creation of the very first Assassin’s Creed title. Since then, the studio has lent its expertise in narrative and art direction for the various series entries. For the Black Flag remake, the studio led not only these elements, but also the game’s overall creative vision, all while coordinating with the various Ubisoft studios around the world.
What makes this game the perfect fit for the studio is that Ubisoft Singapore has lots of experience with naval and ocean technology, starting from Assassin’s Creed III. This expertise, coupled with the Anvil engine’s Atmos system, allowed the team to craft a more immersive Caribbean Sea, featuring more dynamic weather systems and lighting, along with more realism via detailed environments.
Aside from the technology under the hood, what makes the project special is that many Ubisoft Singapore devs have contributed to the original game 13 years ago. Thus, this is an even more special project for them, not to mention that it served as a great development environment for the new generation of devs in the studio.
“Black Flag holds a special place in the hearts of many players around the world, and also in the history of Ubisoft Singapore,” said Justin Ng. Lead Producer on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. “Our goal was not only to preserve what made the original unforgettable. but to elevate it with the tools, craft and expectations of today. This project shows that major global entertainment experiences can be imagined, built and led from Singapore.”

It’s fair to say that the studio’s efforts have been well worth. After all, not only has Black Flag Resynced gotten great reviews, but it has also become a big hit, selling over 2 million units in just its first day.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
