As the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak shows no signs of slowing down worldwide, Garena has announced that it is postponing two major esports events — the Free Fire Champions Cup 2020 and the CoD Mobile — Garena Invitiational.

The Free Fire Champions Cup 2020 was scheduled to happen on April 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia. But because of the COVID-19 outbreak, Garena has decided to postpone the event to a later date for the safety of attendees.

Here is Garena’s full statement on the postponement:

In light of the evolving global situation regarding COVID-19, and our commitment to prioritising the health and well-being of our athletes, fans, partners, and staff, we are postponing the Free Fire Champions Cup (FFCC) 2020, which was scheduled for April 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Our current intention is to hold the event at a later date. We are monitoring developments and will explore all possibilities to proceed with the event once conditions allow.

The Free Fire Champions Cup is a showcase of the very best of Free Fire’s passionate global community, but in the current circumstances it is not feasible to bring teams and fans from around the world together for the event. We remain committed to providing our athletes with an opportunity to compete at the highest level and bringing the best possible esports experience to our fans, and look forward to providing more updates in due course.

There will be changes to local and regional qualifying tournaments, in line with local conditions.

Updates on the qualifier changes will be published through Garena’s social media channels.

Similar to the Free Fire Champions Cup, Garena has also decided to postpone the Call of Duty: Mobile — Garena Invitational.

Here is Garena’s official statement:

“The Call of Duty® Mobile – Garena Invitational and Garena World 2020 will not be proceeding as planned.

We are currently assessing the best way forward for the Call of Duty® Mobile – Garena Invitational, to still offer our athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level while safeguarding their well-being.

We will be assessing the situation carefully, and will share more details on Call of Duty® Mobile – Garena’s Facebook page.”
