After starring in the hugely popular One Piece live-action series, Mackenyu fans will be treated to more as he will star in Dragons of Wonderhatch, the new Disney+ series that’s coming this December.

To further hype up this intriguing new series, Disney+ shared a new visual which you can see here:

This upcoming show is a must-see for anime fans, but it’s not a live-action anime adaptation. Instead, Dragons of Wonderhatch is a unique series that combines live-action and animation. Specifically, its live-action parts are set in the real world while its anime parts (by Production IG) are set in a fantasy world.

The series’ premise is described as:

“Born in our ‘real world’ with sound-color synesthesia – a unique ability that allows her to see colors when she hears certain sounds – Nagi has spent her entire life feeling like she doesn’t belong. Dreaming of one day being able to fly, Nagi will soon come face to face with Thaim, another misfit from a different world. Born in Upananta, Thaim has long been treated like an outcast for his inability to hear the voices of the dragons that inhabit his animated land.

With the floating islands of Upananta slowly beginning to fall from the sky, the two misfits will set off on an epic adventure spanning both live-action and anime worlds in Dragons of Wonderhatch”

Aside from its intriguing premise, this new series also stars several big name stars. Of course, there’s Mackenyu (of One Piece fame) who plays the dragon rider Akuta in Dragons of Wonderhatch. Though the show’s main characters are Sena Nakajima (We Are Little Zombies) as “real world” high school student Nagi along with Daiken Okudaira (Nemesis, Mother) as Thaim – a dragon rider from Upananta.

Finally, this series also features popular voice actor Kenjiro Tsuda (Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen) as the fearsome dragon rider Jairo.

Dragons of Wonderwatch will be released on December 20, exclusively on Disney+.

In related news, Mackenyu is coming to the Philippines at ManiPopCon this November.
