Marvel's Spider-Man 2 becomes the fastest selling PlayStation Studios game ever

Shortly after the game’s release, Sony confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever!

Specifically, the latest Spider-Man game sold over 2.5 million copies in just 24 hours. On its own, this is an impressive record, but comparing it to PlayStation’s previous record-setters can give you a better perspective.

The first Spider-Man game from Insomniac which was released in 2018 sold 3.3 million units in three days. The sequel getting over 2/3rds of the way there in just one day is already impressive, but it’s even more so when you consider that there were more PS4s sold in 2018 compared to PS5s sold now. This is given the timing of the games’ release within the generation.

For another comparison, the record-holder of the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive is The Last of Us Part 2, and that game sold 4 million units in three days. The fact that Spider-Man 2 got half that in just 24 hours is again another impressive showing.

Along with becoming the new fastest selling PlayStation Studios title, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also got great reviews as it has a 90 on Metacritic currently, with many reviews praising its gameplay, story, and technical innovations.

The game is available now exclusively on the PS5.
