In case you’re unfamiliar, Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia is an upcoming anime based on the manga series A Witch’s Life in Mongol. This series is unique in that it’s set in the 13th century and follows a girl from Tus, Persia, who is taken to Mongolia after the Mongols invaded the city.
To give you a better idea of the series, its premise is described as:
Sitara lost everything when the Mongols invaded Tus. The kind mistress who treated her like a daughter, the books she had come to love, her hopes for the future—all burned to ash and pierced by swords and arrows. Now she stands on the strange and distant steppe where, after working her way into the Mongol court, she bitterly accepts a life of comfort while biding her time until the moment for vengeance arrives. With Genghis Khan dead and a Grand Kurultai called to decide on the next emperor, it seems the circumstances are ripe for her revenge!
As for the show’s staff, the series features Naoko Yamada (of A Silent Voice and The Heike Story fame) as the chief director, with Abel Góngora (co-director of Dandadan Season 2) serving as a co-director.
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will be released in July 2026, though there’s no word yet on a specific release date. There’s also no info yet on where it will be streamed internationally.
Along with Jaadugar, Science SARU is working on the new Ghost in the Shell adaptation, and it’s also premiering this July.
