Life-size Gundam Unicorn statue in Tokyo will be removed in August

Sad news for Gundam fans.

A major Gundam pilgrimage site is winding down soon, as the life-size Gundam statue in Odaiba, Tokyo, will be removed this August.

On the statue’s official information website, it was revealed that the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam statue in front of Diver City Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba will be removed at the end of August 2026.

Since it was unveiled back in September 2017, the Gundam has become a major tourist attraction in Odaiba. As such, it’s surprising to find out that it will be dismantled soon, especially given that plenty of series fans still make their way over to Diver City Tokyo Plaza to see it in person.

No details were shared as to why this statue will be removed, though Bandai did reveal that it is working on the “Gundam Landmark Concept,” which will be a new Gundam attraction in Japan. Hopefully, this new attraction will open in Tokyo, especially as Japan’s capital is still the main entry point for most visitors to the country.

For now, there’s no word on when this concept will be unveiled in full. After the Unicorn Gundam is removed, fans can at least visit other life-size Gundam statues in Japan, in LaLaPort Fukuoka, which was installed there in 2022.

There’s also the Bandai Hobby Center Plamo Design Industrial Institute in Shizuoka City. While this doesn’t have a life-size Gundam, there is a life-size Gundam model kit, along with an informative museum about model kits.
